The Raw images were processed in Lightroom and exported to named folder as 4K 16:9 aspect ratio JPEGs and then placed on a timeline in Premiere Pro.

I always make available ultra high definition images on my Flickr Pro account and share the Raw files with my Patrons on Patreon.com/markgaler - i don’t think reviewers should offer opinions without independent MTF charts. I can, however, provide purchasing guidance on my Patreon support channel.

The FE 85mm F1.4 GM is one of Sony's older lenses and does not have the fast AF Linear XD focus motors found in the 24, 35, 50 and 135 GM lenses. It is hotly tipped to be replaced with a MK II version this year. You will, however, find a short review of this lens on my RUclips channel.

There are power settings in the setup menu, but the most common cause of premature battery drain is leaving Bluetooth on (which disables the timed power shut down). I offer full support on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel.

I am pleased you are enjoying the A7RV - you may have to wait for more than a year to see an A7RVI, as the 'next cabs off the rank' are likely to be the A1 MKII or A7V.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Yes, I also thought so, the rules for import of products to the EU with AI and more have delayed many electronic devices worldwide. I may just buy an other A7RV when I have saved a bit ☺

There may be other camera settings that you have modified that may result in the underexposure you are seeing, such as choice of metering Mode or Exposure Compensation. Highlight Clipping is seldom seen in images that are underexposed.

@AlphaCreativeSkills thanks for your reply. I used matrix metering and exposure was zero. I switched to manual immediately and chose SS of 4000 again with f1.8 and it was obviously brighter with nothing overexposed so seems odd that in aperture priority it chose SS of 8000 and came out dark. Not a big deal because I can use exposure compensation to brighten but I'm always keen to learn and progress. Only had my a7r5 for a week and don't remember this happening on my a74.

Pulsing focus can be attributed to camera settings, but are not a feature of this lens or any other modern Sony lens. I offer technical support on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel.

That depends on whether you prefer to use one 'filter system' or several smaller screw-on or magnetic filters (that would also allow you to use your lens hoods). There is no one correct answer - which is why I offered the alternative quick swap filter system in this video review (and something that I tend to use more often than a filter system). The resolution is reduced but not necessarily the quality. Quality will only start to diminish if there are insufficient pixels for the screen resolution being used to view the image. Using an APS-C lens in APS-C mode will result in a 14 Megapixel image when using a 33 Megapixel full-frame sensor. You need 8.3 megapixels for a 4K screen. This allows you to crop further. Movies or stills?

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Stills only. With or without an SD card ( because I thought I need a faster SD card but it’s not the case) pressing the shutter to take photos makes the body noticeably warmer above its room temp, and it happens when a couple of minutes.

The three zooms that were updated had slower focus motors. The 100-400 has fast focus motors so I don’t think there won’t be the same urgency to update this lens.

There is no competing 135 F2.8 - so its a real no-brainer at that price 👍

There are lots of variables. It is easy to check your burst rate in Lightroom, as you can see how many images were captured in one second using the time stamps. Just be sure to set the Priority in AF-C to release and use a fast focusing lens with linear XD focus motors.

The low subs is partly because I don't review all cameras and all lenses. So that leaves subs from Sony Alpha owners only.

I would imagine they are from a compromised batch - I would contact Sigma to alert them of your poor customer experience.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills I guess so, SigmaUK are looking in to it and have checked their stock, all of which are clear so I'm going to get one direct from them.

What did I say that you think was subjective? I never say I think a product is better than a competing brand. I provide weights snd measurements and show ultra high-definition examples of what the product is capable of capturing. I also discuss who this product would be suited to. Where is the ‘subjectivity’ in that? No other Sony Ambassador does in-depth product reviews as we don’t get paid to do them.

If you rewatched it there’s obviously some useful information to be found in it …the sort of info no other reviewer provides.

The top dials on the top of the camera are Focus Mode and Drive mode dials - which is not the same thing as Focus Priority. The dials have been in this position since 2017 on the A9, A9ll, A9lll and A1 cameras and have proved to be ultra reliable.

The resolution of the A7Cll allows for plenty of post-production cropping. The A7CR just allows for a bit more.

I disagree - I don't review lenses or cameras that I don't like. I am under no obligation to review products at all, and certainly under no obligation to say nice things. I don't think I even pay any complements in my videos as my videos are information driven and not opinion driven. Its a big upgrade from the A7lll - many will buy it because it is compact, while others will purchase it because it’s cheaper than an A7IV and has AI subject recognition

@@AlphaCreativeSkills I totally agree. I find the AF on the 7Cii is unreal - I starts tracking faces/eyes almost right away. I just got it the other day and put it on my 400mm to shoot and was just blown away at the focus. There is certainly an adjustment with the shortcuts keys and lack of joystick though once I used it a few times, I just adapted and adjusted and really like it... I also did another sunset photo shoot with it paired with the 135mm 1.8 and the photos are really crisp and tack sharp. So happy I got it...

Yes, if you are not using a wide aperture. Later model cameras can focus in lower levels of ambient light (measured in a negative EV rating).

Difficult question to answer quickly as the A6400 has better AF tracking while the A7III has better high ISO performance and dynamic range. The newer 33 MP sensors would also allow you to crop tighter thereby rendering a 1.4 Teleconverter surplus to requirement in many instances. Not sure what you mean by 'issue'. This camera is a huge technical leap forward compared to the A9II - it's a complete non-brainer for sports photographers. Just arrived. This one has just one visible dust particle. I know it wont affect photos but i just feel it shouldn't happen on a new lens.

Sounds like you purchased the tripod with the LH-25 head instead of the LH-35 head (or better) - different suppliers bundle different heads with the tripod and the tripod can be purchased without a head. The LH-25 can still work with only a minor loosening of the lock adjustment, but the LH-35 has separate lock adjustments.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Yes, I simply didn't realise the differences when I bought it. The LH-30 is the next one up with separate knobs and holds 3x the weight.

The movies that can be captured by this camera are of a very high quality - much much better than previous models such as the A7III, A7C,A7RIII and A7RIV. If this is not the case, then maybe you need to either double-check your settings (check out my Movie settings video tutorial) or contact Sony to see if your particular camera is defective. Note > you did not outline your choice of settings in your statement. If no-one else is reporting unusable videos from this camera then it stands to reason you are dealing with an issue that is unique to you.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Mark, I'm still on firmware version 1.2. I have avoided going to 2.01 or 2.02 because I don't want to reinstall all my settings. They don't offer any benefits significant enough for me to go through a reinstallation, unless it will improve performance with the 200-600 lens which seems to work fine now.
